Birding Panama 1 of 2
The first installment of our 2-video series of our birding trip to Panama during January 2015.
"Cover Bird" is the Keel-billed Toucan (08:45). The colors on this toucan's bill look like they were splashed on by an adventurous, perhaps even very young, artist. Though toucans have a reputation for making lots of noise, this one was only discovered by looking up in the trees! Sighted and photographed on Pipeline Road in Gamboa.
EXTRA CREDIT! How would you caption the picture of 4 Fiery-billed Araçaris at (20:45)?
Look for:
A solitary Geoffroy's Tamarin at (13:32)
Two kinds of Toucans — Keel-billed (08:32) and Chestnut-mandibled (21:47)
A trio of Trogons at (03:06), (04:17), and (11:01)
Also featuring a Lesser Greenlet (13:08) who may have bitten off more than it could chew; a Resplendent Quetzal showing his gorgeous coloring (22:59) and three-toed sloths (10:29).
See also loads of tanagers, hummingbirds, manakins, flycatchers, caracaras, warblers, jacanas, boobies, woodpeckers, frigate birds, puffbirds, herons, Howler Monkeys and more!
Locations: Panama Canal locks; Panama City; Gamboa, Parque Nacional Soberanía; Rio Chagres; David; Volcan; Bayano Valley, Darién.
Equipment: Canon EOS 70D with EF 70-300mm lens
