We love this traditional quilt pattern made by alternating nine-patch blocks with plain fabric blocks, creating a chain-like effect. This quilt features a repeating design of squares that form a linked pattern. Irish Chain quilts usually feature a contrasting fabric for the chains and a lighter background but you can experiment with your own colour selection too, we think it would look fantastic in a ombre effect or rainbow colour palette too!

What's in this tutorial?
🔹Learn tips on fabric selection, cutting, piecing, and pressing to achieve clean lines and that classic chain effect. Jeanette used the stunning Moda Starlight Gatherings collection by designer Primitive Gatherings that she discovered in her fabric stash! The range evokes a night sky filled with stars which works perfectly for this block.
🔹Learn how to make strip sets with an accurate 1/4 seam - this is why the quilt is so quick and easy to make!

Materials you will need:
Jeanette has done the quilt maths for you!
🔹She used (10) fat quarters which makes (56) Irish Chain blocks. NB: She picked (5) dark and (5) light fabrics for contrast.
🔹She also used approx 58.5 inches of background fabric (1.5m approx) to make the (54) 6.5 inch solid colour squares.
🔹 You will also need wadding, backing and binding to fit your own quilt top dimensions. (Not covered in this tutorial. Ask us if you need any help.)
