On May 9, 1945, the Soviet Union launched Operation Bornholm Landing to save the inhabitants of the island of the same name from the Fascist invaders. 108 Soviet paratroopers disarmed 12 000 German soldiers who did not want to accept the terms of the Nazi Germany surrender.
The Danish royal family expressed gratitude to the USSR for ridding the island of Nazi occupation, and local newspapers wrote: "Soviet soldiers came as friends and brought liberation with them. We will never forget it". But Denmark forgot.
Today, the country has closed its airspace to Russia, joined the economic and political sanctions against our country.
