SNORKELING THE ELVISCOT SHIPWRECK
Join us on a journey to explore the fascinating wreck of the Elviscot, an Italian merchant ship that set sail from Naples bound for Marseille but met a tragic fate on January 10, 1972.
Due to severe weather, the ship struck the Ogliera rock near Pomonte on Elba Island, causing it to sink. Fortunately, the entire crew escaped unharmed. The wreck left the stern half-submerged and the bow lodged on the rocks, creating a dramatic and eerie scene. Although part of the hull was salvaged, the rest of the ship eventually sank completely.
Today, the remains of the Elviscot rest on a sandy seabed, about 10 meters deep and approximately 500 meters from the shore. The stern, bridge, and part of the bow have transformed into a captivating underwater attraction, drawing divers and snorkelers from all over the world.
We had the privilege of snorkeling at this incredible site, and it was an unforgettable experience. The crystal-clear waters and rich marine life, combined with the haunting beauty of the wreck, made this one of the most memorable snorkeling adventures we've ever had.
If you're looking for a unique spot to explore, the Elviscot wreck in Pomonte on Elba Island, Italy, is a must-visit!
