Canada: Chandra Arya, a Member of Parliament from Canada, has strongly opposed an attempt to label the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as a genocide. He shared that he was the only MP present in the House of Commons to object to the motion, effectively blocking its approval. Arya also expressed concerns about the pressure he faces, including threats, for standing up for the Hindu-Canadian community’s interests and warned that the "politically powerful Khalistani lobby" would likely continue to push for this motion in the future. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Arya stated, “I was the only Member present in the House to say NO, and my single objection was enough to prevent this motion from being approved.” He emphasized that, despite the success in blocking the motion this time, the lobby pushing for this motion is persistent, and there is no guarantee he will always be in a position to stop it. Arya warned that this movement risks creating divisions within Canada’s multicultural society, particularly between the Hindu and Sikh communities. Arya condemned the 1984 riots, which resulted in the brutal deaths of thousands of Sikhs, but he argued that labeling them as a genocide would be misleading and unjustified. He stated that such an assertion could fuel anti-Hindu sentiments and sow discord between communities in Canada. He urged Hindu-Canadians to contact their Members of Parliament (MPs) to ensure that any future attempts to push the motion are blocked. Arya also stressed that the only way to prevent the motion from succeeding in the future is for MPs to stand firm against it when unanimous consent is sought. He concluded by rallying Hindu-Canadians to take action and safeguard community unity, saying, “Let us stand united against this anti-Hindu agenda and safeguard our communities.
