Save this wholesome & filling One Pot Rasam Rice recipe to make later!
Makes: 4 | Time: ~20–25 mins ⏱️
🟢 Preparation
Soak ½ cup brown rice in water for 6 hours
Soak ¼ cup arhar dal in water for 6 hours
Soak 2 tablespoons tamarind in ¼ cup water for 30 minutes
🟢 Ingredients
Spices
½ tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp cumin seeds
20 curry leaves
⅛ tsp hing (asafetida)
Veggies
1 cup chopped tomatoes
½ cup chopped green beans
½ cup chopped carrots
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 tsp grated ginger
½ tsp coriander powder
½ tsp roasted cumin powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
¼ tsp black pepper powder
Dal & Rice
¼ cup arhar dal (soaked)
½ cup brown rice (soaked)
2½ cups water
Other Ingredients
2 tbsp tamarind (soaked, pulp extracted)
1¼ tsp rock salt
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
🟢 Method
1. Heat a steel cooker. Add all spices, roast for 1 minute.
2. Add all veggies and stir for 3 minutes on low flame.
3. Add soaked dal, rice, and water. Close the lid, cook for 3 whistles on medium flame + 2 whistles on low flame.
4. Prepare tamarind pulp, discard seeds.
5. Once steam releases, add tamarind pulp and salt. Cover for 10 minutes.
6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve warm.
Tip: Letting it rest for a few minutes after cooking helps all the flavors blend beautifully.
