📺 In this episode of the #MyEUIResearch video series, we spotlight Julià Gómez Reig, a doctoral researcher at the EUI Department of History, exploring the far right through a transnational lens.
📌 A childhood discovery—finding a belt buckle bearing the yoke and arrows of Spain’s Falange—sparked a personal and scholarly journey into how fascism shaped families, nations, and ideas across borders.
The research traces fascism as an international phenomenon and a response to competing visions of world order in the 1920s—set against liberal and Bolshevik projects—and reconstructs a genealogy of right-wing international thought.
❓What enables societies to slide into more authoritarian modes without obvious signs? Who are the “enablers” that normalize otherness and violence toward minorities—and how do their actions shape the conditions for politics to harden? This project shines light on those subtle mechanisms so we can better recognize them.
