Chi-Square Test of Independence
Chi-Square Test of Independence is a statistical test used to determine whether two categorical variables are independent or related to each other. It compares the observed frequencies in a contingency table with the expected frequencies. If the difference is large, it means the variables are dependent (related); if small, they are independent (not related).
Formula:
χ² = Σ (O − E)² / E
Where
O = Observed frequency
E = Expected frequency
Expected Frequency Formula:
E = (Row Total × Column Total) / Grand Total
Example:
Used to check whether gender and product preference are related using a contingency table.
