Inconsistent sounds are typically the ones that draw your attention away from the task at hand or wake you up. White and brown noise help in masking that inconsistency.
White Noise is noise that contains all the different frequiencies of sound, from low to high frequiencies.
Brown Noise has mostly low frequiencies, base tones, with almost no high notes or frequencies.
Pink Noise is in between White noise and Brown noise. Pink noise eliminates the high frequiencies and has more mid range and base tones.
