Are your citrus trees going to be dwarf? In this TreeSource FAQ, we explain the key factors that determine tree size, including variety, planting location, grafting method, and most importantly, rootstock selection.
The primary true dwarfing rootstock used at TreeSource is Flying Dragon, which produces trees approximately one-quarter the size of a standard tree. Flying Dragon is cold hardy but slower growing, particularly in winter, and typically requires additional time in production.
Semi-dwarfing rootstocks such as C-35, Trifoliate, and Macrofil produce trees about two-thirds the size of standard. C-35 is the primary semi-dwarfing rootstock used at TreeSource and offers broader soil adaptability.
Standard rootstocks produce full-size trees. For smaller, more manageable growth, citrus trees can also be grown in decorative containers with proper drainage and seasonal fertilization.
