Описание: Traditional Zimbabwean funerals are deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the country’s diverse ethnic groups, such as the Shona and Ndebele people. These ceremonies emphasize honouring the deceased and maintaining strong connections with ancestors, who are believed to play an active role in the lives of the living.

When someone dies, family and community members gather to mourn, support one another, and prepare for burial. The body is typically kept at home or in a designated location while rituals are performed. These may include singing, drumming, and prayers to communicate with ancestral spirits and ensure the deceased's safe transition to the spiritual realm.

Burial often takes place in the family’s rural home, reflecting a deep connection to ancestral land. Before burial, elders and spiritual leaders may perform cleansing and protective rituals to ward off bad spirits. Sacrifices, such as the slaughtering of livestock, are common to honour ancestors and appease spirits.

The mourning period continues after the burial, sometimes lasting weeks or months. During this time, the family refrains from certain activities to show respect. At the end of the mourning period, a "kutanda botso" or cleansing ceremony is conducted to reintegrate the family into normal life and thank the community for their support.
