Rev. Fr. Lucas Onge'sa Manwa, the deputy general secretary of Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, speaks in the second Interfaith Peacebuilding and Prevention of Identity Based Conflict Session of the Global Peace Leadership Conference 2018 Uganda, on August 1st. This session's theme was "Vision, Principles & Values: Moral Authority & Interfaith Leadership in Fostering Peace & Development".
"Identity based conflict, or the “us vs. them” mentality, directly
contributes to war, conflict, and corruption. By destroying opportunities to share and collaborate, it continues a vicious cycle of underdevelopment, poverty, environmental degradation and more. This session will address the premise that the universal principles and shared values expressed in the world’s faith traditions provide an affirmative basis to build social cohesion in diverse and multi-religious societies, and that faith leaders can and must lead the way in building ethical societies and sustainable peace."
Leaders of many sectors, from education to business and investment, came together to discuss how their work can affect the larger region of East Africa/Great Lakes through this GPLC's theme, "Cultivating Moral and Innovative Leadership". Their discussions in Uganda were to cultivate this East Africa region to be able to be leaders in the larger vision of peace.
