In this Guitar Tricks lesson, Dave walks you through four essential string bending licks using the C minor pentatonic scale—a go-to scale for countless rock and blues guitar solos. If you're working on improving your lead guitar playing, mastering these licks will help you build control, expression, and phrasing.

The lesson begins in the 8th position of the C minor pentatonic scale, one of the most commonly used guitar scales for soloing. The first lick uses a whole step bend on the 11th fret of the B string, followed by a descending run that includes a pull-off—creating a repeating four-note phrase that you can loop for building technique and feel.

The second lick is a staple in many famous solos. It starts with a bend on the G string (10th fret) and incorporates a barred double stop on the 8th fret of the B and high E strings, followed by another pull-off on the B string. It’s a great example of combining string bending with alternate picking for speed and clarity.

The third lick is short and punchy: bend the 10th fret on the G string and follow it with the 8th fret on the B string. Repeat for a bluesy, expressive sound. Practice this with alternate picking for fluid motion.

The fourth lick introduces a release bend and pull-off combo, then descends to the 10th fret of the D string—the root note (C)—giving the lick a strong, resolved feel.
