Описание: Maria Troncatti (1883–1969) was an Italian Salesian missionary sister and nurse who dedicated her life to serving the indigenous Shuar people of Ecuador. Born on February 16, 1883, in Corteno Golgi, Brescia, Italy, she joined the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and trained as a nurse during World War I while serving with the Red Cross. In 1922, she was sent to Ecuador, where she worked as a nurse, surgeon, and catechist among the Shuar in the Amazon jungle. Known as “Mamacita” or “the little mother,” she provided not only medical aid but also spiritual guidance, promoting peace, education, and women’s empowerment through her faith and compassion. Troncatti died in a plane crash on August 25, 1969, in Sucúa, Ecuador. She was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 and continues to be venerated as a model of missionary zeal and Christian charity. She will be canonized as Saint on the 19th October 2025.
