Bait Review BOGO Style
Hope yall enjoy seeing the OD rats in action, as I compare the 2 PC vs the 1 PC. Here are some thoughts:
OD 2 PC (Regular Size) is a fantastic topwater rat, and I have been very impressed (so impressed that I got rid of all my other rats LOL)... it has a nice subtle wake on a slow to medium retrieve, making a V wake and just a touch of sound. The head portion stays true with a subtle side to side swim, while the rear half rolls and shimmys, throwing the tail side to side just like the real deal.
Keeping the rod tip up will help to keep the rat on the surface at faster retrieves, or point the rod down to dive the bait down 2-3 ft. The crank down works well at a slow to moderate slow retrieve, and continues its lifelike swim. Short rod twitches will also make this bait walk like a dream, staying in one place and seeming to pivot on axis. The walk can be quiet, but you can also snap it for some more surface commotion. Of the 2, this one is my go-to day time all around rat, especially when I intend to wake and swim it for the majority of time.
OD 1 PC rat exceeded expectations. In the hand it seems a bit "uninspiring", but in the water it comes alive! Where the 2 PC has a subtle wake, the 1 PC throws a much larger wake, due to it's oversized posterior that both rolls and shimmies side to side. This also throws the tail, creating a bit more surface commotion. The head portion also stays less true to center, giving it a more exaggerated swim. Like its 2 PC sibling, this bait will also crank down to 2-3 ft, and does well on a slow to moderate slow retrieve with the rod tip down.
However, where this bait really shines is the walk. It exhibits the same back and forth, pivot in place walk, but it throws a bunch more water. You can really snap this thing and get it to make a ton of noise and splash, while still maintaining control of the bait. You can also be real gentle with it and just twitch it side to side, but this bait really lends itself to being fished aggressively. For this reason, this is a superb night fishing bait, as well as for fishing cover that overhangs deep water- it calls up the fish!
I fish both baits on 2 setups. A Dobyns 795 with braid is my go to for times I plan to walk the bait close to cover. If I intend to make long casts and wake/crank, I swap over to the Dobyns 806 with 20 lb mono.
Hope you enjoyed the review and video, thanks for watching/reading! Feel free to join the discussion by posting comments and other thoughts below. Thanks fellas!
