I think rock climbing is awesome, and although I don't have frequent access to climbing outdoors or an indoor gym currently, I'm still planning on making some foundational progress on my ability!
I'm a big fan of training the body itself, and bringing a better body to any skill/technical development. This allows you to make relatively fast progress at the skill/technique comparative to others, as your beginner gains are happening on top of a solid foundation. In order to prepare for pole vaulting in college, I trained up to being able to do a 70% Bodyweight (in added load) pullup, and some heavy ankle weighted toes-to-bar core lifts. Even though I had practically no experience doing the event ever before, I was able to learn the technique incredibly fast as I had no physical limitations.
I'm taking this same approach to rock climbing. How can I bring the best body possible to rock climbing when I am able to practice the skill months/years from now? That is what I seek to answer, and further hone throughout my current training!
