First off, to get a job on LinkedIn you have to be active. If you never touch your LinkedIn and then one day go on and post to your community that you are looking for a job your results are going to be slim. So first, you need to be active.

Be on LinkedIn everyday- contribute to other’s posts by liking, commenting, and sharing. Gary Vee talks about this as the LinkedIn 1.80 strategy. You leave your 2 cents on 90 different posts a day and you will start to build traction.

Then share your own thoughts on your industry or what you learned from a skill you’ve been working on, a class you’ve taken or event you attended. This will get your name out to others and they will see you are motivated for your professional goals.

Now, I know this feels really ambiguous, like, how does this lead to a job, but trust me, it can lead to so many different opportunities because now you are the person people think of when something opens up in your field. If you are the one who is helpful and contributing to others’ success, even if just through a comment, they will think of you in return!

And now since you have been active you have people who are on your side- they feel like they know you and they are more inclined to want to help you, so NOW you can give that post where you say you are looking for your next opportunity. Make sure you let people know what part of the country you are looking at, the industry and types of roles. And give a sentence or two to why you are qualified for those types of positions. You want to make it easy for people to help you. Don’t just say you’re looking for work. Be more specific.
