The struggle of the Banglee people during the Pakistan era and the war of liberation stand as unique cases of peoples’ aspiration for justice, equality and dignity. From a peace and conflict standpoint, that struggle and war of liberation provide rich information on how various contextual factors such as religion, ethnicity and culture intersect with concepts such as citizenship and democracy.
The leadership of Tajuddin Ahmad during the war of liberation, leading to the deliverance of the country into independence as a sovereign nation offers several lessons about how to navigate people’s struggle in the middle of a complex web of international and national dynamics. This paper will offer an analysis of the struggle of the people of Bangladesh during the Pakistan era, and the role of Tajuddin Ahmad from peace and conflict studies lenses.
