Kempegowda International Airport (IATA: BLR, ICAO: VOBL) is an international airport serving the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Spread over 4,000 acres (1,600 ha), it is located 28 kilometres (17 mi) from the city, near the village of Devanahalli. The airport was opened in May 2008, replacing HAL Airport as Bangalore's main commercial airport. It is named after Kempe Gowda I, the founder of Bangalore.
In 2015, Kempegowda Airport was ranked the third busiest airport by passenger traffic in the country, behind the airports in Delhi and Mumbai. It handled over 18 million passengers and roughly 400 aircraft movements per day.
The airport serves as the primary hub for AirAsia India and Air Pegasus, and as a secondary hub for Jet Airways. It also serves as focus city for Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet. Prior to their demise, Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines were also based at the airport.
