We spent the night outside in Idaho winter conditions with no tent and no sleeping bag.
Overnight temperatures dropped to 2°F (-17°C), which made shelter, fire, and bedding critical.
The goal was to stay functional, manage the cold, and learn what actually works when you remove standard gear. With all the adventures we do we wanted to see how we would fair if we actually got lost in winter conditions.
For sleep, all we brought were two elk hides. Fire was critical throughout the night, and every choice had consequences once the temperature dropped.
