Welcome to "The Sounds of Springfield", a Youtube channel dedicated to taking a closer look (and listen) to how The Simpsons uses sound design and music.
In this video, we analyze scenes from classic episodes of The Simpsons including "$pringfield", "You Only Move Twice", "Marge vs. the Monorail", "The Springfield Files", and "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson." Learn about the difference between diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, and how the show uses them creatively. Examine the use of diegetic sounds including dialog, ambience, and sound effects like Milhouse getting his face maimed by cats, and learn about the use of non-diegetic sounds including voiceover and underscore.
Edited, narrated, and with additional music by blouse-wearing poodle-walker Ian Vargo.
We also use a clip from the trailer for the 2006 film "Stranger Than Fiction", and a brief excerpt of "You Are My Sunshine" by Jimmie Davis.
