Описание: The cochlea plays a vital role in hearing by converting sound vibrations into neural signals. A key element in this process is the basilar membrane, which functions as a frequency analyzer. Different parts of the membrane respond to different sound frequencies: high frequencies peak near the base (stiffer and narrower), while low frequencies peak near the apex (wider and more flexible). This tonotopic organization allows precise separation of pitch. The traveling wave along the basilar membrane initiates motion in hair cells, leading to mechanical-to-electrical transduction. Understanding cochlear mechanics and basilar membrane function is essential for grasping auditory physiology, clinical audiology, and hearing-related disorders.
