Had to get this out now or else I'd have to wait till October. Over time I've grown to like the Paldea cast, I was a lot more harsh on a lot of them when SV came out. Masters actively improved my opinion on several but mainly Geeta and how strong she actually IS in this game. This video was somewhat of a struggle to make because of my small-ish pool to pull from, kind of makes it like a puzzle. I also wanted to use jukebox music which meant doing it twice, but that left you all with an extra clear to enjoy. Weird to think in 36 hours we'll be on the Gen 10 hype cycle.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 Freebie Freerun
2:18 Mela's Meltdown
4:37 Elite Four 4 All
7:02 Iono Zone Takeover!
9:15 Spooky Snipe
11:26 Extra: To The Future
Round 1: Rika
Parameter: Stat drops on faint
The three Event Paldean Sync Pairs from the 6th Anniversary are actually pretty good! I'm thankful we had them given out, actually allowed me to have a version of Juliana. Out of the three Nemona is the one I least like using but she can do on-type clears handily if not quite slowly, and even then she has Rain and Move Gauge Boost for Rally. Penny fixes Nemona's Gauge and uncapped Special Attack, she's 5/5 from the High Score Event last month.
Round 2: Poppy
Parameter: Special Shield
Here's a confession, I spent a full pity on Mela last year on the Team Star Poke Fair banner, she ended up being the only unit I got from it. I've been trying to justify this to myself since by using her whenever there's a Fire stage. Her B-Move is strong alebit not NC Selene level but her Sync hits way harder than I'd think, also her Sync Accel while tricky can be insane when used correctly. Thought I'd leave Event Florian out? Didn't use him correctly here but comprising Sp Def Drops with Sun and 1 Sync Countdown makes him quite good in Rally, I enjoy using him both as DPS and as a filler, too bad he has to chose between his nuke and DPS though. Eri was the only Support left from planning besides Grusha who would be weird to include here, also the only other Team Star Member I have, I'm sorry for making fun of your name Atticus! Please my Poison Teams need you!
Round 3: Hassel
Parameter: Permanent Field Effects
This stage needed status which forced my hand into using Geeta, she's still pretty crazy after 2 years. Her Poison Zone does not last long by itself most of the time but she can hit HARD with her B-Move, I also enjoy her flinches. I'd say Rika was made for her which she kind of was with the PMUN buffs but the overlapping Zones can be hard to manage, I even messed up in the clear. I got Poppy from the Tickets on Sunday so what the heck, why not use her with these two? Although she's generally a lock and load Striker, She added some needed extra damage. Can't say I'll be upgrading her myself beyond this.
Round 4: Larry
Parameter: Status Conditions Boosted
From Day 1 of her reveal Iono was bound to become my favourite character from SV, call her characterization "lazy" or whatever but she's a very fun character to have in any scene and how they'll make it related streamer and web culture, she's like 30 trying to act hip. I also like her design Mizutani cooked. Anyway for the clear, Electric-weak stage, Electric type Sync Pairs, you know how this goes. Base Iono is a very fun Support, DPS Supports are all but gone now but she can casually do 20K from her Buddy Move, her only issue is her reactive passive. Lodge Iono isn't much, very by the numbers and that TM is laughable. TCG Event Iono is surprisngly good but I've only ever used her On-type as you should. Funny they had to give her a Pokemon from the same family in the span of 8 months.
Round 5: Geeta
Parameter: Special Attacks Boosted + Permanent Field Effects
Surprise! More Iono! With special guest apperances from Mr. Walksabout and The Sub-zero Shredder. This stage needs Special Defence Drops which is weirdly incompatible with Ghost right now, for Iono here she needs to deploy her first B-Move just to not deal with the damage reduction. Clive is a funny pair, he just spams Sweet Scent and he's PMUN and SMUN buffing, it's all he has to do at a base level. Can't say much for Gym Grusha, other than I got him fully upgraded and that he's better than a 1/5 base Grusha. Paldea Blast!
Extra: Florian can be absurd in the right context. I was going to use this for the main clear but I don't think it'd be right if I ended with this quick bomb. This also worked for Hassel in my testing. I couldn't decide which was better but in the end I had to do both anyway, best of both worlds.
