In this webinar, Dr. Dil Thavarajah, professor at Clemson University, discussed her work on developing pulse crops—such as lentils, peas, and chickpeas—for improving global food security, with a focus on USDA-certified organic agriculture. Her breeding program, initiated in 2020, emphasizes nutritional biofortification, sustainability, and adaptation to the southeastern U.S., particularly South Carolina.
Dr. Dil Thavarajah is a Professor of Pulse Quality and Nutritional Breeding in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Clemson University. She leads the Pulse Biofortification and Nutritional Breeding Program, focusing on developing organic pulse cultivars—such as lentils, chickpeas, and dry peas—with enhanced nutritional profiles, particularly rich in iron, zinc, selenium, and prebiotic carbohydrates.
