900 Global Cove Ball Review

Here's a look at my 900 Global Cove. Video was shot on the house pattern at Cedar Lanes in Sandusky, OH, which is 45 feet on 60+ year old wood lanes. The core shape is the new symmetrical Magna A.I. core, which features a low RG (2.49) and medium-high differential (0.044). Wrapped around this big engine (core) is the brand new RB85 Hybrid coverstock with 4000 Abralon finish, designed for smooth and continuous motion.

Mine was drilled 4 x 30, similar to my !Q Tour and !Q A.I. I hoped for this to be a “ball up” from those !Q’s. With the box finish, this is a LOT more ball than an !Q. Moves and release tweaks helped a little bit, but the reaction/carry was below average. So, I decided to give this ball a light coating of Storm 2 polish. With this change, the ball got the breakpoint more easily, yielding a stronger but still controllable backend reaction and good carry. At 2:25 in the video, I threw two shots with the !Q Tour which had a similar reaction, and I finished with the Cove.

Always keep in mind that if the reaction of a ball out of the box isn’t what you’re looking for, it’s very easy to change the surface by sanding or polishing. This simple step may give you a new outlook on that piece. Grab this one from your local shop and Bowl Up a Storm!
