Описание: India’s economic growth story often highlights the rise of large enterprises, yet a critical gap remains hidden within the financial system. This talk explores the inequality in credit access faced by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, a sector that contributes nearly 30% of India’s GDP and represents about 90% of its enterprises, yet receives only 7% of total bank credit. A significant portion of registered MSMEs falls into the “new-to-credit” category, entrepreneurs with viable ideas but no formal credit history or collateral. As a result, many promising businesses remain unable to expand, hire workers or scale operations, creating what can be called the “growth we don’t see.” The talk highlights how limited access to formal lending often forces entrepreneurs to rely on informal moneylenders, further constraining their potential. It also points to the possibility of change through India’s digital public infrastructure or the India Stack. By using alternative data such as vendor payment histories instead of traditional collateral, lenders can unlock opportunities for millions of new entrepreneurs.
