Gabriel Faure – Apres un reve

Today I’d like to share with you our live performance of Gabriel Fauré’s romance Après un rêve.
We recorded this video right before one of our concerts at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Budva.
Our videographer said that just posting a one-take video (as I usually do myself) was “too boring” — so he asked us to play the piece three times.
We used one full take for the audio, but the video is edited from all three performances — so you might notice a few funny "mismatches" here and there. Still, I think it turned out quite well. What do you think of our interpretation?

And a bit about the piece:
Fauré originally composed this music to an Italian text, but before the premiere, his friend translated the lyrics to French — and that’s the version the world knows today.
Also, this is yet another reason why cellists should thank Pablo Casals: it was he who asked Fauré to create a version for cello and piano, removing the words, and even arranged it for cello and orchestra.
And if a romance still makes sense without lyrics — that’s a good romance :-)
