Unlike conventional dryers that are manufactured in sections and assembled on-site, this project required the dryer to be delivered as a complete, factory-welded single piece. The purpose of this design is to eliminate the need for on-site welding, ensuring higher installation precision, faster commissioning, and improved mechanical alignment of the rotary body. This approach has gained increasing popularity among overseas fertilizer plants seeking faster project completion and more reliable long-term operation.
The 30-meter one-piece dryer was designed for high-temperature drying of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate), NPK compound fertilizer, and ammonium nitrate granules. The internal structure includes a scientifically arranged lifting plate system, adjustable feeding device, and multi-stage sealing design to ensure high drying efficiency and minimal heat loss. The dryer operates under a fully controlled temperature profile, capable of maintaining a uniform outlet moisture content between 1.5% and 2.5%, ideal for subsequent cooling and screening operations.
Our engineering team adopted advanced finite element analysis (FEA) during the design stage to ensure mechanical strength and thermal stability of the long rotary shell. The main cylinder is fabricated from Q345R pressure vessel steel, fully welded in our workshop under TUV and CE standards, and every seam undergoes ultrasonic and radiographic NDT inspection. After welding, the shell was subjected to stress-relief heat treatment to prevent deformation during high-temperature operation.
However, the benefit of no on-site welding also brings a key logistical challenge — transportation cost.
The dryer will play a vital role in the pipe reactor DAP and ammonium nitrate production process, where slurry generated from the pipe reactor requires precise moisture control for granulation and coating.
