LED grow lights are mechanically different than traditional lighting fixtures. They use diodes to produce light and diodes can produce a more specific spectrums of light. This helps by not wasting energy on light that is not being used by photosynthesis. LED's also have a better efficiency rating than most traditional fixtures; around a 40 to 50% efficiency rating. They do lose energy through heat however. To get better efficiency you must keep your LED's cool. Overall LED's are more efficient than traditional lighting fixtures.
