Two suspects accused of killing transgender man appear in court

Описание: Precious Arzuaga and Kimberly Sochia, two of the seven people accused of torturing and killing Sam Nordquist, appeared Tuesday in Ontario County Court.

L.C. Collins was in the courtroom wearing a shirt that said "Say His Name" in support of Nordquist.

"I'm going to keep coming back no matter what, because we're going to get justice for Sam for each and every one of them," Collins said. "I'm going to be here for all of them, because all of them are a part of this."

During Tuesday's pre-trial hearings, four witnesses were called in Arzuaga's case and two in Sochia's.

"We are doing each individual defendant separately as part of the hearings at this stage," said Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford. "Every one of these hearings is just about the voluntariness of any statements they made to police."

The first two witnesses in Arzuaga's case work for New York State Police. They answered questions relating to statements captured on body camera.

According to the testimony, the first interaction was during a welfare check Feb. 9 at Patty's Lodge in Hopewell, and the second was Feb. 12 at Arzuaga's mother's house.

Two corrections officers from the Ontario County Jail also testified. One said she checked on Arzuaga, and later made a mental health referral, because Arzuaga was crying and pacing in her cell.
