In this industrial design case study, I redesign an existing indoor security camera by applying my own guidelines for achieving a Japanese minimalism design aesthetic.
Instead of starting from scratch, I break down a real consumer indoor security cam to understand its internal components, functional constraints, and mechanical layout.
From there, I move into the concept development phase:
• Initial ideation sketches
• Design principles inspired by Japanese minimalism
• Moodboards exploring living room context and spatial harmony
• CMF (Color, Material, Finish) exploration boards
• Proportion studies and object presence within interior environments
Finally, I compare my redesigned concepts directly with the original indoor camera reference. I openly discuss manufacturing feasibility, pricing implications, perceived value, and whether my redesign improves functionality—or simply reframes it.
