►How to fight a quick mobile attacker with Wing Chun can be difficult when fighting at a distance. Especially, if your opponent is moving around you and cutting you off with a good angle of attack. The idea in this training video is to show how to fight someone that moves around a lot with some simple Wing Chun footwork ideas. Wing Chun is famous for the concept of chasing. This is essentially the idea of rushing forwarding during a fight in order to dominate the space between you and an attacker. Yet, this is more difficult against a fighter that moves well and keeps you at punching or kicking range as in most martial arts.
The key point to note, is that a good fighter or boxer will move and throw punches from different angles of attack in a fight. So you must use your Wing Chun in a manner that is not to stiff or robotic. Essentially, you must hold your centre ground, while controlling the space between you and your opponent.
We’ll show you how to use Wing Chun concepts to manage distance and angles of attack. The objective here is to show how to use the concepts of footwork and timing when you are unable to bridge an opponent. We address the main questions of how do you cross that distance safely? How do you manage the angles of attack that a good boxer can throw punches from?
There are three stages of managing the distance with a mobile attacker. The first is to control your ground or hold your spot. The second is to take advantage of that and use it as a launching pad to attack back in a fight. The last stage is to ride distance of the punch, and this is a higher level skill.
Wing Chun is a great martial art, but it does rely on a focus on mobility in training to manage fighters that move and change angles of attack. This video covers some simple Wing Chun techniques that will help you.
