I love making these splined miter boxes with hand tools. They are a great way to practice miters and getting a perfect fit demands accuracy. They're also something that can be knocked out quickly. Would love to your thoughts comments and always happy to answer any questions.
Given the boxes small size, I like to keep the wood and splines thin. I'm using quarter inch walnut for the box, eighth inch wenge for the lining and the splines are the same thickness as my backsaw blade.
I'm not sure why I chose wenge as I typically use a lighter contrasting wood for box linings. Even so, I like the way this turned out.
