नैनीताल की खोज ब्रिटिशों द्वारा की गई थी क्योंकि अंग्रेज चीनी व्यापारियों में से एक नैनीताल में आया था और इस खूबसूरत जगह को ब्रिटिश भारत मे साझा किया था, जोकि कलकत्ता में किया था (कोलकाता).

1. नैनीताल की खोज P Barron ने December 1839 में की थी लेकिन कलकत्ता के अखबार तक प्रकाशित होने में उसे 1.3 साल लग गए थे, और फिर नैनीताल की खोज 1841 ही मानी गयी.

2. नैनीताल झील की गहराई 30 मीटर है लेकिन उसके बावजूद भी इसकी सटीक गहराई आजतक कोई बता नही पाया है.

3. नैनीताल का सबसे ऊंचा पहाड़ China Peak है लेकिन इसका नाम यहां से china की दिवार दिखती थी इसीलिए नही रखा बल्कि चीन देश से आये एक बौद्ध भिक्षु के नाम पर रखा.

4. Nainital भारत का ही नही बल्कि विश्व का एकमात्र ऐसा जिला है जहाँ 20 से ज्यादा ताले है 😳.
