Hollis was 64 and co-founder of the synth-pop band. He created the group with Lee Harris and Paul Webb. They band had success with the singles “Talk Talk,””Today,” “Life's What You Make It.” and “It's My Life.” The latter being their biggest worldwide hit. All their studio albums were hits in their native U.K. With “The Colour Of Spring” from 1986 charting the highest at #8 via the strength of “Lifes What You Make it.”
The group disbanded in the early 90's, Hollis released a solo album in 1998 before semi-retiring from music.
He was born on January 4th, 1955 in Tottenham, London. He originally wanted to be a child psychologist. He later became a laboratory technician and that when he realized how much he wanted to do music full time. He would be at work all day writing down ideas and lyrics.
Hollis had a soaring, haunting voice that perfectly fit in that 80's post-rock-synth framework. - By John Beaudin
