Malta Hikes: Hal Gharghur, Ix-Xwieki and Sweiqi

Having had clear, warm, sunny days the last week, Sunday's hike had some pooey weather. It's funny, how the weather can, at times affect us from doing a particular activity and at times, demotivate. Don't get me wrong, I love hiking in any weather but I guess I have just been spoilt with the weather and when it stops for one day, you notice it more.Anyway, I shook it off quickly, knowing that once I'm out, everything will be just fine.👌

I wasn't disappointed and in fact, thoroughly enjoyed every moment as I knew I would. There's always a bright side. The countryside is green and blooming, the temperature was just right and I was heading for the neighbouring village called Gharghur.🕍

It was an easy trek and I only took one wrong turn and had to backtrack due to my, at times, stubbornness. I wanted to climb the stone steps from the valley to Gharghur but was unable because of some private land beforehand. Nevermind, I thought. Another day!

Arriving to the village, I was greeted with Gharghur's parish church dedicated to St Bartholomew. Also, in this village, you can find Malta's largest WWII shelter which served as a refuge and was built manually! The only regret I have from this hike is that, I didn't manage to visit the Top of the World viewpoint as I found out about it when I returned home. It apparently has some spectacular views so for sure, next time it will be awesome to come back with a clear,sunny day.🌞
