Solar Trackers and Battery Energy Storage System for Illinois Hog Farm

Описание: What a cool project! Four (4) 2-Axis Solar Trackers totaling 37.4 kW and battery system with 66 kWh of energy storage provide electricity for hog farm in Southern Illinois. These solar tracking system provide high energy yield per kW of solar capacity. The design helped minimize backfeed to the local rural coop utility and maximize reduction of the hog farm's electric bill. Batteries stored excess daytime power production for use into the evening hours.

The farmer chose a side pasture next to his hog operation for location the solar system. Both before solar and after, the ground continued to be used for grazing horses including miniature ponies. This is a simple example of the concept of agrivoltaics, merging solar energy production and agriculture.

This project was also a model for how smaller solar systems can reduce backfeed to small single-phase power lines in rural areas while maximizing electric bill reductions for the farm owner.
