I wasn't joking about this being a long video. That aside:
USS California is in the middle-ground of Pearl Harbor battleships. Well known, but nowhere near as famous as Arizona or West Virginia. For someone of my generation, her featuring in Medal of Honor Rising Sun helped there.
In any case, California- as the second of the Tennessee-class -was the last of the 14-inch Standards. A very capable ship, by all accounts. And she would show this capability, after being repaired from severe damage at Pearl Harbor.
Ultimately seeing out the entire war, with only minimal damage after her rebuild.
