Climbing up and down Half Dome with the cables down.
Really it took 45 minutes up and 30 minutes down, but only because we were trying to be safe with prusik knots, which caused drag and had to be retied 4 times.
Video shot with a GoPro HD 720p mounted on a red Petzl helmet.
Three of us used:
1. a pair of thin, grippy rubber gardening gloves,
2. a climbing harness, a daisy chain with an autolocking carabiner,
3. a loop of perlon (for prusik knot) with an autolocking carabiner.
4. mountaineering boots, trail shoes, and rock climbing shoes all of which gripped the granite pretty well. I don't recommend standard tennis/running shoes.
Felt pretty safe the entire time as the cables & bolts looked real solid. There was a steady stream of rock climbers descending from having climbed Snake Dike on the other side. There were also a couple hikers climbing up and down.
Worst Parts:
1. Cable gets real heavy towards the top.
2. Undoing and retying the prusik knots when a cable ends and a new one begins.
