Made a simple crystal tester using the Colpitts crystal oscillator circuit for testing crystals I have salvaged out of equipment or bought. The tester I built is good for 4MHz to 8 MHz. The 20MHz crystal did not work but might if I changed the capacitors C1 and C2 to lower values. Below 4MHz I did not have any crystals to test it with.
Second purpose of this electronics project was to improve my soldering by putting the interconnecting wires on one side and the components on the other side. This worked out very well and improved the look of the surface mount devices. Soldering improved when I switched back to the lead based solder.
