Bamboo farming in semi arid region comes with challenges.
Minimal rains and prolonged dry weather result in death of many new bamboo shoots, especially the Giant bamboo type.
We are in a dry , degraded land which requires land restoration. The land is also sloping, and so soil erosion is a big challenge.
More trees are required here to help in land restoration by reducing SOIL EROSSION, land restoration. and conserving water, thus improving the environment. A bamboo ecosystem supports a high BIODIVERSITY.
Bamboo contributes to THE CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION and mitigation through its rapid carbon absorbtion.
Furthermore, the bamboos provide a very welcome shade in the hot sun as well as being a habitat for many insects and birds.
The economic benefits of bamboo are numerous, and so we will continue to plant more.
