Men and women did not evolve identical psychologies. The differences we see today come from a powerful evolutionary principle called Parental Investment Theory. This theory explains how the cost of producing and raising offspring shaped the emotions, instincts, mating strategies, and jealousy patterns of both sexes.
Females evolved higher biological investment: costly eggs, dangerous pregnancy, risky childbirth, years of breastfeeding, and long-term childcare. Natural selection shaped caution, selectivity, and sensitivity to partner stability.
Males evolved lower biological cost: inexpensive sperm and fewer physical risks. Natural selection shaped higher mating effort, more competition, more risk taking, and stronger drive for mating opportunities.
But humans also evolved strong pair bonding because human infants require massive investment from both parents. This shaped male jealousy, bonding, loyalty, and paternal effort.
The core idea is simple. The sex that invests more becomes more selective. The sex that invests less becomes more competitive. This explains modern attraction cues, emotional reactions, dating patterns, and why relationships feel the way they do today.
