Pianist Adam Tendler performs a piece titled "Eiris, Sones," written for him by contemporary music composer Nico Muhly. The piece was written for Adam's "Inheritances" project and is inspired by the memories of Adam's late father.
Muhly says of his composition "Eiris, Sones" -
"'Eiris, Sones' is a sort of memory-piece, for which I wrote a simple chorale, and set a piece of text from the book of Proverbs (in the Wycliffe translation, from 1382). The pianist is required to play the chorale and the tune at the same time, only imagining the words:
'A good man schal leeue aftir him eiris, sones, and the sones of sones; and the catel of a synnere is kept to a iust man.'"
Adam Tendler is a Yamaha artist, concert pianist, composer, and curator, and is based in Brooklyn, N.Y.
