Day 2 of my first-ever solo bike tour — a three‑day, 325 km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls and back. Today’s ride is shorter, from Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake to Port Colborne, but it’s packed with history, scenery, and a few gloriously odd detours.
I follow the Niagara River south along the stunning Parkway Trail—once called “the prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world”—climb to Queenston Heights, visit Brock’s Monument, and stop at iconic Niagara landmarks like the Floral Clock and the Botanical Gardens.
Then comes the contrast: the neon chaos of Clifton Hill, the raw power of the Falls, and the quiet drama of the Old Scow. From there I head west to the Welland Canal, tracing its industrial past, modern innovations, and the communities it shaped.
The day wraps up in Port Colborne after 71 km of beauty, history, and discovery—plus one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had and a front‑row seat to a 1929 lift bridge in action.
