NECA's JAWS Game Shark REVISED Pt 2 with Reworked Mouth and Repaint!

Описание: So endeth this project! For now anyway! The NECA JAWS Game shark figure is now a finished reworked piece for my collection at long last! And it was a labor of love!

Gone is the big upper gum, looking more like the Jaws the Revenge shark's mouth, and now, he's a bit more like Bruce from the original!
Now, mind you, as a game toy, he rocks! He's still a great reproduction of the shark, but THIS IS ME! I don't play where Bruce the Shark from JAWS is concerned! I want not A shark, but THE shark!

It took literally removing both the upper and lower more rubbery jaw pieces with the teeth, and reworking them, and the maw interior, to get all the teeth to line up correctly. Kudos to NECA for making it the way they did, because we the customizers can get in there and do our thing with it.
It takes a battle plan, and time. And some experience with x-acto knives, and trimming softer plastic and rubber, and also, simply knowing Bruce's details to the point where one can revise them with some certainty that you can get it right.
I have 50 years of studying this beast under my hat. Making little carved sharks, making sharks from toilet paper tubes (see segment in video!) and more. Plus, I have the unique advantage in that I actually spoke to Robert Mattey, the mechanical mastermind that actually cracked the code for how to do this thing, for Universal, all those years ago.
Long story that, but suffice it to say, I had some good teaching, and have had access to some great reference photos for years now.

And, I am a bit insane when it comes to reworking perfectly good toys!

Never one to back down from a challenge where accuracy in my Jaws stuff is concerned, I thought about what I would do with a NECA reproduction for years! Whoever made it, I was gonna make it top notch as best I could. It just happened to be NECA.

I explain the hows of what I did in the video, what I did not share well was the paints I used.
NECA got the colors pretty close, so I matched the top grey using Valleo Neutral Grey 70.992, mixed with a bit of 71.057 Black, and some Golden brand Raw Umber dark brown. The bottom was straight out of the bottle Valleo Aged White 71.132. For the inner mouth, and mouth "red" details I simply mixed Vallejo's German Red Brown 70.605, with the Aged White, and pretty much had my colors.

A note on the spots and such on his face and on the lines between the grey top and white bottom...
Ward Welton, the painter on Bruce during the making of the movie, came up with a blending pattern that he could fix from a boat, at sea or on the water, if the shark got dirty, dinged or damaged, that would work in a pinch and blend the colors well. That is why Bruce has that sort of blend pattern on the sides and sides of his head etc.
As for the black dots on his snout, sharks have what are called, ampullae of Lorenzini, small pits that are part of a shark's sensory organs, that help them detect motion and blood etc., in the water. Bruce had these painted on his snout in the movie. You can see them in closeups.
Hence the dots.

The rest is luck and daring. I simply refused to face the idea that I might screw it all up!
