0:00 Introduction
03:28 1) State the Formal Hypotheses:
The "null hypothesis" and the "alternative hypothesis"
05:10 2) Calculate the Test Statistic:
A t-statistic with a n-1 degrees of freedom. (n = the sample size)
07:50 3) Find the P-Value :
The area under a T-Distribution that corresponds to the direction of the Alternative Hypothesis. Two-sided test has two areas for P-value.
11:40 4) Make the Decision
"Reject the Null Hypothesis" or "Do not reject the Null Hypothesis"
Decision made by comparing the P-value to a pre-determined (given) Alpha Level.
"If the p-value is low, reject H_o"
13:50 5) State a Conclusion
Describe what the data says about the research objective.
You either have evidence to support the Alternative Hypothesis (If you reject the null), or you do not have evidence to support the Alternative Hypothesis (If you did not reject the null).
This example covers a two-sided test where the alternative hypothesis is "not equal to", so the p-value is sum of the two areas on the outside of the test statistic.
Thanks for watching!
