BREAKING: Republicans are panicking that Trump is building a blue wave, and it's certainly coming
"We're preparing for the bottom to fall out."
That's a GOP operative working on midterm races, describing what Republicans now see coming in November. And it gets worse for them. That same operative says Senate contests in Iowa, Alaska, and Ohio are firmly in play — along with House districts Trump carried by DOUBLE DIGITS in 2024. Their verdict: "Republicans are running out of runway here to improve their political fortunes before November."
Think about how we got here. Trump campaigned on ending foreign wars and lowering costs. Then he walked into the White House, abandoned kitchen table issues entirely, and plunged the country into a war Congress never authorized and the public never supported. Now American service members are dying, the strikes keep escalating, and gas prices are climbing right back up.
In Iowa, Democratic Senate candidate Josh Turek is hearing it everywhere he goes: "Everywhere I'm going, it doesn't matter, urban or rural areas, people are telling me they're struggling just to keep food on the table, a roof above their head, and now with this unnecessary war in Iran, we're looking at being able to afford gas."
That's the whole election in one sentence. People are being asked to pay more for a war they never wanted.
And vulnerable Republicans are trapped. Members like Brian Fitzpatrick and Tom Barrett are stuck defending the party line on the war while trying to explain to furious constituents why their bills keep going up.
The most damning part comes from inside Trump's own orbit. A person close to the White House described the war as badly mismanaged and driven by Trump's refusal to admit a loss: "They don't have a plan here." They warned a ground invasion could produce a fifteen-year war and "runs the risk of ruining his second term. This is a classic escalation trap."
Even his base is walking away. New polling shows just 37 percent of MAGA voters now say the U.S. should stay involved in Iran if it raises costs — down 13 points since May, when half of them thought it was worth it.
The official party line is that everything's fine. But when your own strategists are preparing for the bottom to fall out and your own base is heading for the exits, the voters have already made up their minds.
They told you they'd end the wars and lower your costs. They did the opposite of both. November is when the bill comes due.
