In this next scene of "The Wizard of Oz," Dorothy meets the Scarecrow while on her way to the Emerald City.

Please review the idioms/terms in the video and then watch the video.

scarecrow = An object that looks like a person dressed in old, torn clothes and that stands in a garden or field to frighten birds away.

funny = strange, surprising or unexpected.

on purpose = intentionally; deliberately; if you do something on purpose, you do it intentionally.

way = direction

make up (one's) mind = To make a decision about something; decide.

Why = used to express mild surprise, hesitation, approval, disapproval, or impatience
"Why" is an old fashioned expression and is not normally used today.

brains = Intelligence.

bright = Intelligent and quick to learn.

Oh, dear! = An expression of dismay, concern, or worry.

slip off (of something) = To fall away from or off something.

pick something up = To grasp something (as with one's hands) and lift it up vertically.

unravel a mystery = Solve a mystery.

scared to pieces = Very afraid; extremely frightened.

want something badly = Want something very much.

all the way = from the beginning to the end; the entire distance, from start to finish.

worse off = In a worse situation than you were before or than someone else is now.

had better (do something) = Used for saying that someone should do something.
'had better not (do something)' means the opposite.

couldn't/can't say = Used to say that someone does not know the answer to something.

get in/into trouble = To get into a bad or dangerous situation.

face (something) If you face something unpleasant, especially a punishment, then it might happen to you.

match = a tool for starting a fire.

boxful = as much as a box will hold; the contents of a box or the amount a box can contain.

start off = To begin travelling; to start a journey.

be off = To leave a place or to depart to another one.
