STORYLINE:
The Guatemalan village of Tzucubal, where 13-year-old Pascual Melvin Guachiac Sipac - who died asphyxiated inside a trailer in San Antonio, Texas, in his attempt to migrate to the US - turned out in support of the teenager's grieving family.
On July 27, 46 migrants were found dead at the scene, while seven others died in local hospitals.
Thirteen-year-old Pascual was among the victims.
"My friend told me not to panic. He said he saw what happened on the news, a tragedy in San Antonio. I tried calling my son to his phone but he was not picking up, and the other boy (who was travelling with him) was also not picking up either, so I understood that he was in that trailer," said the grieving father Casimiro Guachiac at his funeral.
His 14-year-old neighbour Wilmer Tulul accompanied Melvin in his dream of reaching the United States.
Casimiro Guachiac, father of the deceased child, told The Associated Press that he learned of his son's death while in the United States.
A year earlier, he had made the same journey to migrate, also in a trailer, but he did arrive safely.
After his son's death, he decided to return to Guatemala.
The tragedy also killed 26 Mexicans and six Hondurans.
The remains of all the Mexicans are already in Mexico. The repatriation of the Hondurans is still pending.
The truck was carrying a total of 73 people, low-income men and women who paid thousands of dollars to smugglers to enter the United States, where they aspired to a better life.
So far, US authorities have reported the arrest of four people: the driver, a US national, and three other men.
