作品について / Program notes:
今日よく耳にする「スカボロー・フェア」は、1960年代に活躍したフォークロックデュオ「サイモン＆ガーファンクル」により有名になったもので、もともとは16世紀頃のイングランドの民謡です。「スカボロー」はイギリス北東部にある海沿いの観光地の名です。
このクラリネット四重奏版は、バス・クラリネットのソロで静かにはじまり、次第に盛り上がり、ジャズ風なフレーズを経て、またバス・クラリネットのソロで静かに終わるアレンジになっております。途中から９／８に拍子が変わりますが、３拍子自体のテンポは変わりません。冒頭から160のテンポですが、フレーズごとに徐々にテンポアップしていっても面白いと思います。

Scarborough Fair became world renowned when Simon & Garfunkel covered the tune. It came from a traditional English ballad of the 16th Century. Scarborough is a tourist town on the North Sea coast of North Yorkshire. This arrangement starts quietly with solo bass clarinet, elaborates with jazzy elements and then resolves again with the bass clarinet. The meter changes to 9/8 in the middle but the triple feel remains. The tempo is set at 160 to begin, but it would be interesting to accelerate different phrases for contrast.
